Norcross Tour of Homes - Christmas Part 2

Hello everyone!

I've been meaning to share the rest of my pics from the holiday tour of homes that I went on at the beginning of December!  This home was actually used in a couple of movies!  It's called the Oakes House and was built in 1903.  It has appeared in Mothers Day and A Walk in the Woods movies.

Norcross Tour of Homes - Christmas Part 1

Hello everyone!

How was your weekend?  Mine was rather eventful due to the snow we received!  It wasn't planned either.  We were expecting a few snow flurries and very cold temps.  Suddenly, after school was in session,  and businesses were open, the snow fall multiplied and multiplied until some people received as much as a foot of snow here in GA!  My area only received about half that but it was enough to completely disrupt businesses, traffic, schools, and emergency services.  Many people lost power too.  I'm all about some pretty snowfall (when I'm expecting it and can prepare for it), but not this way.  The news forecast, here in Atlanta, was WAY off!  I am the planning type so I was caught completely off guard by this and caught in bumper to bumper traffic trying to get home.  The plans we made for my son's birthday had to be cancelled altogether too.  He got more than we did where he lives!  He is on his way to Disney so we won't get to see him until next weekend now.

Before all of this disastrous weather, I had a chance to go on a fun holiday tour of homes with my sister in the city we grew up in.  It was a picture perfect beautiful day (unlike this weekend).  I took some pics to share with you.

This house is FULL of color and FULL of nick knacks.  It reminded me a lot of Tracy Porter's style.  Lots of jewel tones and layers upon layers of things.  Are you ready?

Warning!  Picture overload ahead.

This house was built in 1993 and is in a subdivision.  Most of the other homes on the tour were in the historic district.  This home is deceiving though.  The outside looks very traditional, but the inside is NOT! Clearly, the way the reindeer is dressed outside is an indication of what to expect behind closed doors!

A Mini Christmas Tour of my Home

Hello everyone!

I'm feeling a bit behind this year since my calendar has been full of appointments lately.  I think January won't be much better either.  We're getting some improved health benefits in 2018, so I'm putting off some of those appointments until then.  My son may need glasses, and he needs to see an orthopedic doctor about his shoulders not being symmetric.  My dog has been dealing with an eye ulcer that won't heal too. I still have yet to do much Christmas shopping and my oldest son's birthday is this Friday.  So..................it has been a hectic time for us.  I'm glad that I still have some time to get things done before Christmas and I'm glad I'm not hosting it this year too.  That should help out a lot!  So, needless to say, some of my blogging has taken a back seat lately.  I do find time to post on Instagram more frequently though.  So, please follow me there if you would like!  You can find it HERE.

For now, here are a few pics of my home interior decorated for the holidays.

In my foyer, a strand of silver tinsel garland with white lights surrounds the mirror.  A small bowl of silver ornaments and some gold bells complete the look.

A Home Tour

Hello everyone!

How was your Thanksgiving?  We had a nice one!  It was beautiful weather and we spent the day at my nieces house for dinner. She lives in a beautiful home that she recently moved in to so I thought I would share some photos with you.  She likes to decorate with neutrals and prefers pretty feminine style furnishings just like I do.  So, I was very smitten with her decor!  We are definitely a kindred spirit when it comes to decorating.  My only regret is that I forgot to get a pic of the outside of the house.  It was so charming!

You first walk through the front door and the living room is to the right and the dining room is to the left.

My Favorite Hearth & Home Picks

Hello everyone!

I'm sure, by now, that you've checked out the new Hearth and Home collection at Target.  It was released less than a week ago and I believe it has been a hit with most people.  I love it because it offers a lot of modern farmhouse style pieces that work well in my home.  Also, it's from Chip and Joanna Gaines!  So, what's not to love about that, right?!

I thought I would share some of my favorite pieces that I chose for my home and how I used them.

First, is this cute house shaped galvanized lantern.  They offer it in three different sizes.  This is the large size.  I placed an extra large candle in it and placed it on my coffee table.  I like that it's unique and a bit of a conversation piece.  It has sleek lines and can be used year round.

Outdoor Fall Decor

Hello everyone!

The weather this week was so pretty.  So, I decided to share my front porch decorated for Fall today.  After Halloween, I got rid of my jack-o-lanterns and replaced them with some faux pumpkins and gourds that I already had on hand.  It's SO easy to decorate with them.  Just stack them around the door and along your steps.  Hang a wreath on the front door and call it done! I can use all of these decorations year after year too.  This time of year we're finally getting some Fall color in our trees so it's the perfect backdrop for these items.

Let's Go Shopping!

Hello everyone!

I hope you've had a good week so far.  It has been a productive week here at my house.  I've been doing some rearranging and cleaning out.  It always feels good to make changes that don't cost anything!

Last weekend, I went shopping at one of my favorite stores.  It's in a neighboring town about 20 minutes from my house.  It's called Southern Oak Provisions.  Want to go shopping with me?  Well, I took some pics so you could enjoy the fun too.

Cheesy Rotini

Hello everyone!

I've been doing something new lately that has really helped make my week less stressful.  I've been doing meal planning on the weekend for upcoming dinners.  I plan my meals and check my pantry for ingredients.  Whatever I need, I go to the store and grab them on the weekend and then I'm all set for the week.  I remember doing that when I use to work outside the home, but eventually got away from it.  I must say it feels good to get back to being more organized!  Anyway, here is one of the dinners that I made the other night and I thought I would share it with you.  It's not very difficult and I think it makes a good meal during the Fall.

You will need these ingredients:

Modern Farmhouse Additions to the Family Room

Hello everyone!

Ever since Fall arrived, I've been adding more warmth to our home with the addition of black and wood tones.  It helps off set all of the white.  I'm liking the modern farmhouse look that it's creating.  Since I have such a neutral color palette throughout my house, it allows me to change up accessories easily.

The first thing that I did, was to move my white slipcovered chair out of the family room and into the sitting room. That allowed me to  bring in the kubu chairs that were at my kitchen table.   I  replaced them with the ones that were in my sitting room that have a slightly different shape.  Did you follow all of that?

The slipcovered chair is now in the sitting room with room for an ottoman now.

Ok, back to the family room.  Then I added more greenery around the fireplace.

I added more texture to the coffee table with this branch.  I love the look of organic accessories.

I stacked some weathered wood crates in the corner behind the sofa.

And added textured pillows with black and white fabric to the sofas.

This room is really a mix of French and modern farmhouse styles.

Back in the sitting room, I filled the corner beside the large grey cabinet with this black and cream fabric container.  I love the texture it adds to the space.

So, there you have it!  A little bit of modern and French farmhouse all blended together!  I think it works.

Oh, and guess what happened to me on Wednesday, October 11th?!  If you follow me on Instagram, then you already know this, but I became a grandma!  Well, actually I became a "Mimi".  That's what I hope to be called.

Meet Addison Jane.  6 lbs 7 oz, 18.5 inches long

So, now you know my life will become a little busier, and hopefully,  happier and fuller!  I look forward to spending a lot of time with her.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

~ Kelly ~

Changes to my Dining Room

Hello everyone!

Have you ever bought something that led to a whole room change?  I did!  I found a pretty church canvas (from Kirklands) that did just that.  I originally intended it for a different area, but you know how it goes.  You get it home and start seeing it in a new light in OTHER areas of your home and then try to decide on the best place for it.  I guess I was drawn to the brown tones in this picture and how it brought out the brown tones in the chairs and chandelier.  So, I placed this picture above the sideboard and a new room was born.

It's Finally Fall Y'all!

Hello everyone!

How has your week been?  The weather here in GA has been pretty.  The rain has moved out and the sun has been shining.  We finally got our yard all cleaned up from Tropical Storm Irma.  We still need to take our garden down.  The plants are no longer producing so it's time to clean it up and wait until next Spring to do it all over again.

With today being the official first day of Fall, I thought it would be fun to post some pretty Fall images to get us all in the spirit of the season.

One Stop Shopping - Farmhouse Style

Hello everyone!

I'm so glad to finally be posting again! It turns out that the online photo editing website, PicMonkey, decided to begin charging for anyone who uses their site.  So, I needed to do a little homework and find another free site.  I didn't feel like I should pay for something that someone else can offer for free and I get the same thing in return!  So, for those of you who are looking for a free online imaging website that does virtually the same thing as PicMonkey (in my mind), try using Ribbet instead.  Thank you to  Lisa at Fern Creek Cottage for your recommendation!

What I wanted to share with you was my trip to Kirklands and all their great farmhouse style goodies for sale!  My friend Kris at Junk Chic Cottage did a blog post back in early August about Kirklands.  I was so impressed, that I decided to go back and see what all my store had too.  You can see her post HERE.  I am not being compensated either.  These are items that caught my eye and were on sale during Labor Day.

They have loads of farmhouse style goodies for serving in your kitchen.

My Favorite Faux Plants for Farmhouse Style

Hello everyone!

Can you believe it's September now?  This is the month that starts making me ready for Fall.  This is also the month when I think kids should go back to school.  I can't believe mine went back a month ago.  That's like summer school!  I think the way it was when I was growing up was the best.  It wouldn't surprise me if we eventually go to year round school.  Kind of sad! But.......that's not what I want to talk about today.  I want to talk about some of my favorite plants and their sources for a casual farmhouse style.  That includes modern and French style as well.  I love a mix of both actually.
I love a few plants scattered around the house for that homey feeling.  I am not a live plant purist.  So, if you don't like faux, then you can just move along.

1.
The first plant is one that EVERYONE has been after lately.  It's the quint essential fiddle leaf fig.

Farmhouse "Black"

Hello everyone!

First of all, if you are in the path of Hurricane Harvey, I hope you will be safe and have minimal property damage!  I can only imagine how challenging it would be to deal with that while living on the coast.  The coast is both beautiful and treacherous at the same time!

I am starting to feel just a tinge of Fall in the air these days.  It's been cooler in the mornings and evenings and the humidity isn't very high today.  Maybe that will explain the need to change up a few things around my home.  Not too much, but just a little.

I've introduced more black in my home to contrast with the creams and whites that I have throughout.  I'm liking the depth it gives the rooms.

First, are these pillows and rug I placed in my foyer.

The Easiest Chicken Recipe You'll Ever Make

Hello everyone!

It has been awhile since I last posted.  I've been dealing with some terrible health issues!  I'm happy to report, though, that I'm feeling MUCH better now and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

First, I injured my shoulder at the gym (I think) and it is almost well now.  It has taken about 4 weeks to finally feel better! I haven't seen a doctor about it though because I was plagued with other problems that took precedence.   As some of you probably know I suffer from ulcerative colitis and some other auto immune diseases.  I took Remicade for about a year and felt like a new person! But that all changed when I developed terrible joint stiffness and pain in my wrists, fingers, knees and ankles.  I was plagued with fatigue and discomfort.  I thought it was caused by low estrogen since I'm a woman of a certain age and was experiencing some dramatic hormone changes.  But, after hormone replacement therapy didn't help, my gynecologist suggested that I see my rheumatologist.  I was tested for drug induced lupus that can be caused by Remicade.  Long story short, I tested positive and am now taking medication to help me deal with the symptoms until the Remicade is completely out of my system (which can take up to 6 mos.).  So, by Christmas time, I should be back to my old self and will have to figure out a new long term treatment in place of Remicade.  I can no longer take that drug.  (insert sad face) This happens to be a rare occurrence.  Go figure that it would happen to me.  I now have a profound empathy for those suffering from systemic lupus.  It is HORRIBLE!  Mine will thankfully (hopefully) go away forever.  But some live with it most of their adult lives as it affects mostly young women.

With all of that in mind, I wanted to share a very easy recipe for chicken that tastes like you've been slaving away in the kitchen all day but really it only takes a couple of minutes to put together. This is a great recipe for people that don't feel like doing a lot of cooking!  The oven does all the work for you!

It's called No Peek Chicken.  Have you heard of it?

It looks like this, when it's done.

What I Like to Use in Farmhouse Decor

Hello everyone!

One of my favorite types of accessories to use in farmhouse style decor are those made of galvanized metal. There is something about it that just screams farmhouse!  I like the contrast of it next to wood also.  It's easy to find these days and even more fun to shop for at antique stores!  I have a few pieces that I thought I would share with you today.

I love to find pieces that you wouldn't expect to find in galvanized metal.  You get the unexpected factor!  For example, this lamp is like that.  I love the contrast between the cool metal base and the warm burlap shade.

Meatball Stuffed Cheesy Garlic Bread

Hello everyone!

How  did your week go?  Mine has gone so-so.  I've been battling a shoulder injury that I believe happened at the gym.  Ugh!  I probably lifted too much weight or something.  Not quite sure.  It has been giving me pain when I move it for over a week now.  So, all I do now is cardio at the gym. I may see a doctor about it since it isn't getting better.

However, I wanted to share this tasty recipe with you in case you're looking for something new to make at home these days.  It was fairly simple and your kids will probably like it too!

It's called meatball stuffed cheesy garlic bread.

It looks like this.
