Snow Day!

Hello everyone!

We are having a snow day today and tomorrow.  Schools have been closed and there is plenty of snow on the ground to play in.

We haven't seen this white stuff in a couple of years, so it was fun to see it falling yesterday.

We only received a couple of inches, but it's the pretty white powdery kind.  I was glad that we didn't get sleet and ice with it.

The sun has been shining all day but it has still been below freezing.

My dog isn't sure what to make of all of it.

I'm sure you all have heard what a traffic nightmare Atlanta has endured during all of this.  Luckily, I was home when all of this happened, but so many were not.  I'm glad that they are making progress in getting the roads cleared now.

Meanwhile, I'm staying put inside and looking out through my windows to enjoy this pretty view.

Thanks for stopping by!

Shopping Trip

Hello everyone!

Yesterday morning, I had an opportunity to go by an antique store on my way home from an appointment.  So, with coffee in hand, I browsed the aisles and found a few things to share with you.

As soon as I saw these, I thought of my sister. These are vintage apothecary jars in very good condition.  Kim, do you like these????  I know where you can find them.

I spotted this sign that someone made and thought it was very unique and pretty.  But at $79, it wasn't coming home with me!  I looked at it, and figured it could easily be replicated with some wood, paint and stencils.

Then I went into another booth and spotted these pretty blue and white tin canisters.  I actually know the lady who has this booth.  She taught preschool to my youngest son.  She is English, so many of her antiques are in that style.

She also had this pretty enamel bread box and blue striped mixing bowl.

I really liked these crocks with lids too.  Her prices were very reasonable.

In another booth, I stumbled upon this great paint display!  It's the Amy Howard at Home paint.  I have not tried this brand before.  I'm sure it's similar to ASCP, except these cans were only $30/ea which is cheaper than ASCP.

They had some nice colors too.

And look what I spied underneath the table display of paint?  This huge wicker trunk!  It was even lined inside and wasn't a bad price for it's large size.

This grey painted lamp with the white shade was pretty too.

Now, are you wondering what came home with me?  Just one little item.

This old bottle now has a place on my mantel.

I love how old it is and the label isn't even in tact.

Looks like it was for distilled water.

Whatever it was for, I got it for a low price and I like the vintage quality of it.

Hope you enjoyed going shopping with me.

Chandelier Makeover

Hello everyone!

I decided it was time to make over my chandelier in my dining room. I have always liked this chandelier, but was ready to change it up to go with the changes I made in my dining room a few years ago.

Here it is before:

And here it is after:

I didn't like the fact that it seemed to almost match the wall paint in here.  So, I decided to paint it grey to match the furnishings instead. I also removed the shades.

I'm very happy with how it turned out.  Now, I'm contemplating painting the walls in here!  It just never ends, does it?

Here is a shot of it with the lights on.

By the way, I painted this while it was hanging up.  I just placed a drop cloth on top of my table and stood on that so I could reach it.  It took a few hours because it was tedious work, but the end result was worth it.  I used SW Fawn Brindle to paint it.

My husband loved it as soon as he saw it (since I painted it while he was at work).  He said he wished we could do that same thing to the one in our foyer.  We would have to hire a professional to take it down though since it's in a two story foyer above a large staircase.  So we may have to wait a while on that one!

Have you ever painted a chandelier?

Weathered Baskets

Hello everyone!

One thing that seems to be a big part of my home decor lately has been these weathered grey tone baskets.  They offer both style and storage solutions. But most of all, they give me the texture I need with a neutral color palette.

Here are some examples.

In my kitchen, I have this wicker dome and platter set.  It's missing the sheer fabric lining inside the dome, but I like it anyway.

This one on my table holds my pitcher with greenery.  It's purely decorative, but could be used for just about anything.  It was a recent purchase from Ikea.  Ikea is a great place to find baskets like this.

I am using this lined hamper as a side table for my chair in the family room.

Inside, it holds throws.  The lining helps keep them from getting picked by the wicker.

This trunk is another recent purchase from Ikea.  I was going to keep my throws in it but it isn't lined.  I will store something else in it instead.

This tall skinny basket could easily be used to hold umbrellas or walking sticks.  It can even be hung on a wall.  I'm using it for flowers in my foyer though.

This is actually a serving tray or charger, but I'm using it on the wall as art.  I painted some roman numerals on it which gave it some personality.  This one isn't in the grey tone however.

I did the same with this one.  It is propped up above my display cabinet in the dining room.

And finally, I purchased this basket from Target a few years ago.  Wish they still sold them! It's very sturdy and in the perfect shade of weathered grey. I painted numbers on one side, so I can choose which side to use if I want.  It holds magazines.

So, if you're looking to add texture, storage and style to your home, you might want to consider something like these.  But be careful.  They can quickly become addictive.

They're Not Just For Christmas Anymore

Hello everyone!

Since the cold air just keeps hanging on...........

I decided to use some grey and white Christmas decorations in January.  Yes, you read that right.  But you will soon find out that they really don't look like Christmas decorations.  They are not "blatantly" Christmas, if you know what I mean.  Nor are they in the Christmas colors. They just have a wintry feel.

The first one is a little wreath that I found at Ikea in 2011 during the Christmas season.

It's very hard to get a good picture of this because of the glare in the window.  Sorry for the dark picture.  What makes this a nice addition, this time of year, is that it has hearts hanging off of it.  So, it works for Valentines Day.  It's covered in yarn which sort of makes it wintry too. This is a Swedish style wreath for sure!

Next, is this grey and white snowflake sweater covered ball.  Try saying that three times in a row!

Again, it just says Winter to me.

And last is this white furry rug purchased at Hobby Lobby several years ago.  I've always just draped it over something because it's too pretty (and white) to walk on.

I wouldn't call this a Christmas object at all, but I have been known to place it under a Christmas tree!

So there you have it.  Just a few simple wintry touches that I pulled out of my Christmas bins........

in January.

Must the be the cold air affecting my brain.

Thanks for stopping by!

In the Foyer

Hello everyone!

After the Christmas decorations were removed from the foyer, I changed up the top of my chest a little bit.  I wanted to keep some greenery in there to warm up the space since the room is so white with a high ceiling.  In the summer, I get a little bit more shade with the leaves on the trees, but in the winter, the sun is much stronger.

So I actually kept some of my Christmas greenery, which is really just faux cypress, in a container.

Without the lights and glitter of Christmas, it's just plain greenery.  I think it's perfect for the winter time too.

I also reused a candle, that I crafted during the holidays, under a cloche.

The lamp and the picture remained the same.

So now I have some contrast against the white walls in here without using a lot of color.

I'm loving this time of year with the cool crisp air and the warm sunshine streaming in the windows.  But, I must admit, I'm excited for Spring to get here too.  We have had a much colder winter this year than we're used to.

Rest and Relaxation

Hello everyone!

One of my favorite things to do is sit down with a new magazine.
I found this magazine at the store the other day and have really been enjoying it.

Want a sneak peek inside?

Here are a few pages that caught my eye.

And what's better than a little something warm to drink while thumbing through a magazine?
I found this at the same store.  It's very good!  I didn't know that Starbucks made hot coco.

It seems I'm not the only one taking it easy around here either.

This is Max sleeping in the morning sunshine. He likes how warm it is.

Tooooooo sweet!!!

Hope you're having a good day.
